My 3D model has holes, melted buildings, or smeared walls
A capture problem, decided in the air. Processing cannot rebuild geometry that was never seen.
What's happening
The mesh has gaps, smeared walls, or structures that look melted into the ground. This is a capture problem and it happens upstream of DroneFlow: usually insufficient overlap, no oblique passes over structures, or featureless surfaces — water, fresh asphalt, uniform roofing — that reconstruction cannot match between photos.
What to check
- Look at where the holes are — the location names the cause.
- At the boundary of the flight: the flight did not extend far enough past the edge of the area of interest.
- On walls and façades: there were no oblique passes.
- Over water: expected, and not fixable. Water has no matchable texture.
How to fix it
- DroneFlow cannot repair this. The geometry was never reconstructed, and the model arrives here already built.
- Re-fly with more overlap and oblique orbits around structures.
- Reconstruct again in your mapping software and upload the new export.
Avoiding it next time
For mapping, 75–80% forward overlap and 65–70% side overlap is a reasonable starting point, and uniform surfaces want more. Add oblique orbits around buildings, and fly past the edges of the area you actually care about.
If the holes are in ordinary, well-textured ground that was well covered by the flight, contact us — that is worth a look.
